In SAN FRANCISCO, the fourth victim of a Muni-involved pedestrian crash in two weeks was struck by a Muni train Tuesday. According to the Muni's own spokesperson, as of last week, San Francisco Muni vehicles had been involved in 956 accidents this year alone, 39 with pedestrians, five of which were fatal. San Francisco pedestrians are being run over at an astoundingly high rate, and The City faces millions in dollars in increasing legal claims for the negligence of its Muni operators who run over pedestrians. As the City pays out millions of dollars for pedestrian accidents, shouldn't they take a good hard look at the policies and procedures that promote this type of negligent driving?

According to the San Francisco City Attorney's Office, during the first three months of 2007 alone, the City paid out $2,078,470.41 for legal claims. In 2006, the City paid $12,935,927.63 for legal claims, .
